Mental Capacity Act (2005) Awareness Module

This programme links to the Vulnerable Adult E-Learning.

The programme provides a brief overview of the Mental Capacity Act and its implications for staff working with vulnerable adults. It aims to provide underpinning knowledge to enable staff to have an awareness and understanding of :-

  • What is meant by 'mental capacity'
  • The key principles of the Act.
  • The issues around assessing capacity.
  • What is meant by 'best interests'
  • The role of the Independent Mental Capacity Advocate Service (IMCA)
    and when they should be involved.
  • The importance of confidentiality and accurate record keeping.

 

The module provides web links to other sources of information and closes with a final assessment quiz.

The programme uses a range of methods to provide a framework to develop individuals understanding and confidence in dealing with this difficult issue. These include quizzes, web links and a final assessment quiz.
