Equality and diversity for students
Much progress has been made to ensure that staff working in further and higher education understand equality and diversity rights, responsibilities and best practice ... but what about students?
Increasing student diversity inevitably brings challenges for education institutions and can result in conflictual peer relationships on campus, and individuals failing to work to their full potential or even leaving the institution because of difficult classroom dynamics or the insensitivity of fellow students.
Equality and diversity for students is an innovative e-learning diversity programme for further and higher education students from Marshall ACM, which will:
- Raise awareness of the advantages of social diversity among students.
- Reduce the likelihood of allegations of discrimination and harassment within the student community.
- Make sure that students know about their equality and diversity rights and responsibilities.
- Be an important component in an institution's response to legal duties to promote equality and good relations between different groups of students.
Equality and diversity for students is an interactive, one-hour course which can be used as part of student induction, skills development or citizenship-related programmes, and can provide a springboard for further classroom discussion if required. Institutions can customise the course to suit their particular needs and situations by selecting relevant units from an options menu, for inclusion in the product. The programme itself takes account of the diversity of students who will be using it, along with their varied experiences of UK culture and education.
